Summer Intensive Program
Manhattan Art’s Art High School Portfolio Preparation Program is designed for students applying to specialized visual arts high schools in New York City and other competitive programs. Through structured instruction and individualized guidance, students develop strong foundational drawing skills, observational ability, and audition-ready portfolio pieces aligned with each school’s specific requirements. The program emphasizes process, discipline, and artistic growth, ensuring students enter the admissions process prepared and confident.

Art High School Audition & Portfolio Requirements
Most specialized art high schools require applicants to submit photographs of 4–8 original artworks. Typical requirements include:

Self-portrait drawn from observation using a mirror (graphite pencil)

Still life of at least three objects drawn from life (graphite pencil)

Figure drawing from a live model, showing a full figure, accurate proportion, and basic background (graphite pencil)

Additional works (1–4 pieces) demonstrating creativity and range (mixed media)

Creative assignment (such as the Fantastical Sandwich), required by schools like LaGuardia and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (pencil or color pencil)
Admissions panels focus on fundamental skills, observation, consistency, and artistic potential, rather than decorative or overly polished work.
